LBP Clans

In a change of pace from yesterday's entry, I have something happy to show you.

Welcome to the odd world that is LittleBigPlanet's clans. I think I'm going to be writing about these clans more than once, so I'll focus on this one for now.

So, basically you just spawn there and watch these two sackbots twirl happily around as one of them plays a lengthy audio-recorded message. The person speaking is a young boy.

"Hello there, my name is ___ and uh, this is my friend, my very good friend Jedi Knight or (otherwise known as) _____ if you want to add him because we are making a clan. We're not sure what to call it yet but all we know is that it's going to be about anime. Umm.. ahh... I kind of like anime.. (undecipherable) My main character is Ichigo from Bleach and his (Jedi Knight's) is Sora from Kingdom Hearts. (Undecipherable) You can be um, you know you can be pokemon, Sonic (He lists a bunch of characters from Anime which I can't be bothered going back to and writing down.) you can be whoever you want.."

What's so sweet (and I actually mean that word, "sweet") about the entire thing is that he talks to you like a friend. As in, he uses these perfect, sweet manners - the kind of tone you'd imagine him unconsciously using when asking out his fifth-grade crush; dialogue that has a genuine smile attached to it. There is also this loud, nice music playing in the background and it all combines to define the very feeling of "new warm friendship," if that even makes sense.

I'm pretty sure I can't communicate this to you without actually showing the level, but this whole experience is just so nice that it's almost unbearable. After growing used to the internet for so long, it's so odd just seeing kids openly waving at you through it, without any kind of reservations.

I'm not sure how these clans are supposed to work once the membership succeeds 4 players.

But what we're seeing right here is the brighter side of LBP. Do you see... I don't know, warmness like this in typical FPS clans?

Here's a weird example of a clan, to show that these things can be entirely weird.

This "Dojo" clan is essentially some kind of prison divided-up by sub-clans. It has a designated "hang-out" area for each clan.

Fire Clan's hangout area:

Ice Clan's hangout area:

Shadow Clan's hangout area:

They are all in the same level.

I don't get it. Do people actually "hang out" in these things? I like how the creator, in every room, put in these weird wooden blocks. You can't actually jump onto them, they're too high. Yet it's as if they're somehow to be used for entertainment, to make this "chill out" place a place of excitement. (I suppose I can't talk as I somehow always manage to make fun out of the small area in the LBP pod).

But it's strange. Can you imagine if the players actually went by these rules? Like, imagine if two "ice" members and two "fire" members entered the level together. Wouldn't it logically follow that the two ice members should go off to the "ice room" and the two fire members remain in the "fire room"?

Why even have a single, unifying "dojo" clan if it's going to be split into three different groups altogether?

This level's description simply reads; "join please."
